What is an ESD?
An Emergency Services District (ESD) is a local government agency created by a public vote to provide fire protection and/or emergency medical services in a specific area.  The governing statute for an ESD is Chapter 775 of the Texas Health & Safety Code, making an ESD a political subdivision of the State of Texas. Crane County Emergency Services District 1 is not part of the city/municipal government. We are governed by a Board of Commissioners who are volunteers appointed by the  Crane County Commissioners Court. As an ESD, we are funded primarily by property taxes, which by law are capped for all ESDs at $0.10 per $100 of home value.
